Say goodbye to your customary lunch of sarnies and a packet of crisps and, instead, say hello to steak and chips for pretty much the same price. For budget lunches, the new Express menu at Bar & Block takes some beating.

For the next couple of weeks this King’s Cross restaurant is offering a very impressive range of lunch options for a fiver. In other words, barely more dosh than you’d part company with at the McDonalds two minutes walk away. The steak frites (pictured) was our first choice – very tasty and filling it was too. But other options include sea bass, a burger (meat and veggie) and chicken so there’s something for everyone.

Add a glass of plonk and you’re talking a tenner. Our best advice: if lunch is a non starter, escape work early and make it by 5pm for an early evening pre- film dinner.
