Arts & Museums Culture Family FOOD & DRINK Weekend

It looks set to be a classic July weekend; ie blustery, windy and rainy! But don’t let that put you off – there’s still some great things to do across the capital.

=======

Fancy kicking off your weekend with some FREE ice cream? (Who doesn’t!) Then get along to the Fuller’s Inside Scoop bus that’s handing out gratis gelato to anyone who wants one.

The specially decked out double decker will be on the move stopping in Twickenham and Ealing on Saturday before heading over to Battersea and Fulham on Sunday. Guests can even pop inside and eat their sweet on board. Just keep an eye on their social media to see where and when the giant four-wheeler will be next.

There’ll be ten ice cream flavours to choose from – all made using buffalo milk from a farm in Hampshire.

Sat 29th and Sun 30th July: FREE Ice Cream from Fuller’s Inside Scoop bus

clock tower

Prepare to whip out your iPhone for one of the best panoramic shots of the capital, Caledonian Park Clock Tower is opening up to the public on Sunday. Visitors with a head for heights – and who feel confident about climbing the 220 steps up – will also be able to peak inside the fascinating clock chamber.

The seven-story building was opened in 1855 as part of the Metropolitan Cattle Market that took place on the site. Fascinating fact: the railings surrounding the historic tower were built to withstand a bull stampede!

Sun 30th July, 12pm – 4pm: Caledonian Park Clock Tower tours

Take the kids to appreciate some local wildlife. (Warning; it’s the slippery, slimy and spidery kind!) Then make straight for Greenwich for a FREE day of storytelling, bug trails and arts and crafts.

It’s all part of Mission Invertebrate’s project of educating young people about the animals around them and safeguarding habitats. Look out for their special Giant Snail Caravan where the action happens!

Sat July 29th, 11am – 3pm: Mission Invertebrate family activity
Greenwich Park, Children’s playground and boating pond, SE10 8XJ

John Lennon's Rolls Royce

Add a massive dollop of luxury to your weekend at the FREE Rolls Royce Phantom exhibition. The eight motor cars have been brought together to celebrate 92 years since the model was launched.

The collection of classics at auction house Bonhams showroom includes Fred Astaire’s 1927 roller, speed king Sir Malcolm Campbell’s 1933 Phantom II plus John Lennon’s psychedelic runaround (pictured above). Va-Va-Voom!

Sat 29th July – Wed 2nd August, 10am – 5pm daily: Rolls Royce Phantom exhibition

Hackney Wicked

Head East for a sneak peak in to local artists’ studios and work places. Creative types are throwing their doors open as part of Hackney WickED DIY Open Studios 2017.

Back for its 9th year, the multiple-location, three-day event will be marking 50 years since the summer of love so expect themes of love, protest and revolution. Highlights include film screenings, life drawing and pop up food to munch on site!

If you’re looking for a great kid-friendly festival activity, why not head over to the Grow Village Fete on Sunday. The afternoon jamboree from 12pm is promising raffles, cake sales, a hoopla as well as a ‘human fruit machine’! There’ll also be live music from brass band Das Brass plus DJs and it will be raising money for nearby mental health charity Core Arts.
