A FREE 4-day Art Festival arrives in London

Arts & Museums Culture Family Weekend

A London Arts Festival arrives in north London this week bringing with it FREE family art workshops, an art exhibition and a weekend art market.

The Citizens Arts Festival in Wood Green is running across four days from the Thursday through to the Sunday. The art exhibition will be showcasing the work of local contemporary artists in the gallery space above the popular Oita Kitchen throughout the festival.

Meanwhile for cash-strapped parents (and who isn’t) there will be a host of FREE family workshops – for adults and kids – including a Chinese calligraphy workshop, candle making and a session on collage making and printmaking, all led by professional artists. Check out the full programme.

Altogether, around fifty artists will be involved in the festival, either exhibiting in the art exhibition, leading workshops or hosting a stall at the art market, with the majority from Haringey. The Citizens Art Festival is the initiative of artist and photographer Edward Quigley and Antonis Christodoulides who runs a custom framing and mounting service.

Part-funded by Haringey council, both men are keen to support the area’s growing arts scene and to develop its profile. “I think it’s important to shine a spotlight on the things people are doing here”. says Christodoulides.  “It boosts the area and shows aspiring artists, young and old, what they can achieve without feeling unappreciated in the face of many of the institutions that wave the wand at the more fortunate”.

If you can’t make the week’s events, Sunday’s outdoor Art Market promises to be a great afternoon. In addition to showcasing an eclectic range of art from painters, printmakers, photographers and sculptors, there’ll also be live music and a double decker bus transformed into a cafe/bar. PLUS 50% of commission on art sales will be going to the DEC appeal for Ukraine.
